REALISTIC LANDSCAPES with Skatter and Enscape

In this video, learn to use the extension Skatter to create realistic landscapes inside your 3D rendering programs! In this case, we use the rendering extension Enscape to render our landscape quickly and easily!

In this video, I’d like to talk about using the extension Skatter, along with the rendering extension Enscape to create realistic exterior grass and landscape renderings
Skatter, as many of you know, is an extension that allows you to scatter objects within your SketchUp models, but it allows you to do so using proxy models, which allow you to place many different models within SketchUp without negatively affecting performance.
Before I get started, today’s video is brought to you by the SketchUp Essentials Black Friday page. This is my comprehensive list of all the best Black Friday and Cyber Monday SketchUp related sales. Make sure to check this page out for all the best savings you can find on the internet.
Now let’s go ahead and jump into it.
Skatter works by selecting an object (or a group of objects) that you want to scatter in your model, then by selecting a face or object along which you’d like to scatter it.
Note that Skatter is on sale
For example – let’s say we have a rectangle and we want to randomly place rocks along it – you can use the rocks in the Skatter library to place those randomly along the face. You can set it to place these objects as proxy geometry, rather than true geometry, allowing you to place many different copies of this object without actually having to load the geometry into your model.
This geometry is then loaded by your rendering program (Supported by Vray, Enscape, Thea, Corona, an many more) to be rendered without having to ever be loaded as full geometry in your models.
Example – Rocky face
In addition, you can also set it to randomize between multiple different objects. For example, rocks, flowers, and thicker grass.
In this case, because I’m using the extension Enscape to render this, I could use the Enscape grass function to create grass, then use Skatter to add in little imperfections, like taller patches of grass, flowers, weeds, etc.
Not that this works both with Skatter geometry as well as other geometry in your models.
You can also paint out areas where you don’t want the objects to go.
There are many other features of this extension as well, like scattering along curves, camera clipping, and more – leave a comment below if you’re interested in more Skatter tutorials.
