Campbell Hall 153

Dr. Philip Yuan is the founder of the architectural practice, Archi-Union Architects based in Shanghai. Archi-Union adheres to the combination of traditional Chinese culture and digital construction technology, focusing on “parametric construction”, “robot construction” and “green industrialization,” and practices the symbiotic relationship of nature, urbanism and architecture.
Archi-Union has coined the term ‘Digital Tectonics’ to describe their low-tech digital fabrication method which merges the concepts of tectonic construction and ecology that are catalyzed through a parametric design process, in essence combining digital technology and craftsmanship. Yuan is also a Professor of Architecture at Tongji University and is the author, editor or translator of more than twenty books, including Computational Design and Digital Fabrication (both with Neil Leach), and Collaborative Laboratory: Works of Archi-Union and Fab-Union.
