Nk’Mip Desert Cultural Centre. Osoyoos, BC.

A building designed to become a ruin – the Nk’Mip Desert Cultural Centre in Osoyoos, BC, Canada by DIALOG. Featuring rammed earth, timber, concrete and a living roof, this design honours the traditional winter dwellings of the Okanagan First Nations and echoes the colours of the surrounding landscape. This building features blue-stained pine from the pine-beetle outbreak, where the timber industry allowed a higher cut to salvage the timber before it died. We also got to see a Tipi and Pit House – great examples of First Nations dwelling typologies.
