Mark Cousins – Anon: The Author and His Pen – Part 5

Lecture date: 2016-01-29

The Friday lectures this year are entitled “Anon”. That figure whose identity we do not know. It will be argued that “anon” is a much more important figure in the history and practice of the arts, but we conceal this from ourselves by insisting that art and architecture are produced by a sovereign artist, a dictator of creativity. The space of this role is sustained by categories of genius and inspiration, which falsely separate art from technology, form from medium, and from the collective acts through which the artwork becomes an art object.
