Maggie’s – Architecture of Hope | Sarah Beard | TEDxSwansea

A cancer diagnosis can hit you like a punch in the stomach.

Sarah Beard shares the story of Maggie Keswick Jencks who, despite her own battle with a form of the disease, has created a positive legacy of cancer care for patients and their families worldwide. Maggie has given many people the gift of hope, making them not lose the joy of living in the fear of dying. Sarah Beard is the Business Development Director and executive member at Maggie’s, a fast-growing charitable organisation that provides emotional, practical and social support to anyone with cancer, and their family and friends.

Sarah is a Clore Social Leadership Fellow 2015. Previously, she was Assistant Divisional Manager for Cancer and Tertiary at Swansea NHS Trust (now known as Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board), and prior to that managed the South West Wales Cancer Centre, also at Swansea NHS Trust.

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.

About TEDx

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
