Lars Spuybroek is principal of the architectural office NOX in Rotterdam, from where he heads research into the relationship between architecture and new media. ‘Machining Architecture’ describes the basis of his research and practice: ‘The computer has reached a cultural stage, finally. The years that it was used for dreaming perfect shape grammars and design automation or, worse, used for dreaming disembodied dreams of an architecture floating in cyberspace – those years are over.’
