Jurg Conzett – Some Backgrounds

Lecture date: 2006-11-29

A lecture to celebrate the AA publication Structure as Space: Engineering and Architecture in the works of Jrg Conzett and his Partners. The book surveys Jrg Conzett’s work as an outstanding engineer who is redefining the role of structural engineering and its relation to architecture.

Conzett is particularly well known for his footbridges that fit, physically and experientially, into the walking routes of Switzerland, at times reconnecting with old Roman trails. They become important elements in the formation of a specifically Swiss landscape, part of a geographically bound and constructed national identity.

Conzett is a principal in the engineering practice of Conzett Bronzini Gartmann, based in Chur, Switzerland. He studied at the EPF Lausanne and ETH Zurich, and worked for six years in the office of Peter Zumthor. He currently teaches at the ETW Chur.
