Joseph Rykwert gives a short presentation discussing issues raised by his publication, The Seduction of Place, in which he examined a spectrum of urban centres from Mexico City to Chandigarh in order to understand the ways in which cities support, or fail to support, their inhabitants.
Richard Sennett, the eminent urban sociologist, then responds to Rykwert in a discussion moderated by Mohsen Mostafavi.
Rykwert, Emeritus Professor of Architecture at Pennsylvania University, is one of the pioneers in the establishment of History and Theory of Architecture as an educational programme.
