Oftentimes the meaning that’s attached to a site is historically defined. It’s something that’s happened there, and usually something tragic. So as cultural producers we have similarly powerful ways of constructively, positively, consciously, creating that meaning and attaching that to a given location. And in doing so we can make places. We can create events that absolutely rupture what was previously understood to be the potential of a given space and reveal something completely different.
