Jan De Cock – Denkmal 36

Lecture date: 2007-03-15

The parasitical works of Belgian artist Jan de Cock play out the relationship between sculpture, architecture and the legacy of modernism. His lecture, itself a form of sculpture, focuses on the breadth of his practice and the various interpretations that ensue from it. Recalling the pioneering period of 1920s Constructivism and De Stijl, Jan de Cocks laminated MDF interventions have graced museums around the world and international art festivals.
Recent installations have taken place in front of Terragnis Casa del Fascio in Como, and Haus Konstruktiv in Zurich.
Jan de Cock lives and works in Brussels. He has shown at Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt; Tate Modern, London; De Appel, Amsterdam; and Manifesta 5, San Sebastian. His book, Denkmal, is a collection of his work and provides a critical context in relationship to twentieth-century art and architectural history.NB: No sound until the middle of Shumon Basar’s introduction 12 mins into recording.
