James A.D. Cox Distinguished Lecture in Architecture:
“Keeping it London: The History and Future of Heritage and Change in the Capital”

EMILY GEE (MARH 2000)

London is on the cusp of great growth and the special qualities of its protected buildings, characterful neighborhoods and distinctive skyline are under pressure. In this talk, Emily will set out the history of how our system of protection developed and how Historic England assesses and assigns significance to the most precious buildings, archaeology, landscapes and areas in Greater London. The talk will then look at how we manage change to the city, allowing for growth while protecting buildings, character and views to keep it London.
