Inside Woodrise: The Global Mass Timber Conference | Exploring Mass Timber: Part 5

In our final episode, we wrap up ten days across British Columbia with three days at Woodrise 2025, a global mass timber conference focusing on mid-to-high rise buildings. After visiting forests, seed centres, factories, construction sites and finished buildings, we arrive at this industry gathering to hear from people shaping the future of mass timber worldwide.

What we cover in this episode:
Woodrise 2025, Vancouver: Speakers from Vancouver, China and Amsterdam share how mass timber is being used to tackle the global carbon and housing crises
Housing and height: A frank discussion on whether building taller is always the answer, and why neighbourhood outcomes, community and liveability matter as much as density.
Biophilic design: The data behind why natural materials improve human health, reduce stress, boost productivity and support recovery, making the case for mass timber beyond just sustainability.
Circular thinking: How buildings can be designed for disassembly so that the carbon locked in mass timber stays in use long after a building’s original function is gone.
Urbanarium: A not-for-profit research group running the Decoding Timber Towers competition, focused on delivering high density and low carbon without losing community.
The engineers: A tribute to the engineers of British Columbia, whose creative collaboration and willingness to take risks has driven the mass timber revolution
naturally:wood: A thank you to our partners who made this journey possible, and all those we met along the way!
