Ikea and Hay tease 2017 collaborative collection with abstract movie

Swedish furniture giant Ikea and Danish design brand Hay have released a short teaser film that shows the materials to be used in their upcoming collaborative furniture and homeware range.

The two companies created the minute-long clip to build anticipation for the Ypperlig collection, which was announced last month during Ikea’s Democratic Design Day event in Sweden and will be released in 2017.

Set in an unfurnished apartment, the movie shows a glass sphere rolling across a herringbone parquet floor. A white cuboid appears to melt, before a giant rattan coil erupts from the wooden floor tiles and breaks through the ceiling.

The movie was produced by Danish studio Kuhl & Solvstrom (www.kuhlsolvstrom.com) with creative direction from Nikolaj Fremming of Danish-Spanish agency Nikextension (www.nikextension.com) and creative studio Barkas (www.thebarkas.com).
