Iannis Xenakis – Order and Chaos

Lecture date: 1998-04-05

One of the most significant avant-garde composers of the 20th century, Iannis Xenakis is also an architect, engineer, mathematician, writer, and educator. His compositions explore the possibilities of diverse media, deploying theories from various branches of mathematics and physics. Such an experimental approach also characterises his architectural projects, often integrating specific musical compositions and performances as a reciprocal element of their design.

Working with Le Corbusier in Paris, Xenaxis project managed the monastery at La Tourette and designed the Phillips Pavilion for the 1958 World’s Fair in Brussels.
