GSD Talks: Jane Thompson in conversation with Alexandra Lange

Jane Thompson worked with Walter Gropius on a research project in the early 1960s and interviewed all the then-living Bauhaus alumni. During the same period, with husband Benjamin Thompson (one of the seven cofounders of The Architects Collaborative with Gropius), she directed the Cambridge retail enterprise Design Research. She will discuss what it means to be a “modernist”: how she became one, and the challenging situations to which she applied her experience. Jane Thompson was director of planning and programming at Benjamin Thompson & Associates before establishing her own firm, Thompson Design Group. She will be joined by Alexandra Lange, a design historian and architecture critic and a 2014 Loeb Fellow at Harvard GSD. Sponsored by the Breger Fund in honor of Walter Gropius, this event series brings together a range of scholars and practitioners whose work explores the lineage of Walter Gropius and its connection to creative thinking and practice.
