Groundwork with Tiago Mota Saraiva

On 17 April, Tiago Mota Saraiva gave a lecture on the actions of working with the 99%, a non-profit architectural cooperative based in Lisbon.

Following the work started at its sister practice ateliermob, this organization offers services for those who do not have the financial means to pay for an architect. The initiative started in 2016, and when a forest fire struck the central region of Portugal in 2017, working with the 99% and ateliermob provided technical assistance to the solidarity fund for the renovation of the area, which was led by Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian and other institutions. Since then, they have been working with communities and municipalities at different levels through participatory design processes, public policy making, and strategic development to address social issues, politics, climate change, and the means of production in architecture.

This discussion is part of the public events related to our Groundwork project, exploring the evolving role of architects today.
