To start off – you can find the materials by looking on the right hand side of the page at the little icon with the box on it.
Clicking on this will bring up the materials window.
In model on the left, more advanced library on the right.
2 different kinds of materials in SketchUp – colors, and textures. Color is just a simple color. A texture is a repeating image.
Apply by selecting a material and clicking on an object. Notice that materials can be applied both to raw geometry, or actual faces, as well as to the outside of groups or components. If you apply to the outside of a group or a component, every object in the group will get the material applied to it. Very helpful, but be careful.
Note that materials can also have a transparency applied to them. The glass materials have this already – you can also adjust by going into the material settings, so if you wanted to create your own glass material, you could.
Removing Materials – go into the entity info and click the little x
Editing texture size – select material in the “in model” section, then click the button for edit
– Can adjust size
– Can position using “position texture”
– Can adjust opacity
– Can upload your own materials
