Artist Peter Doig and collaborator Laurence Passera on the extremely rare Western Electric and Bell Labs sound system installed in the exhibition ‘House of Music’.
Passera, an expert in historic sound technology, salvaged the speakers from derelict cinemas across the UK. Originally developed in the late 1920s and early 30s to meet the demands of early ‘talking pictures’, the speakers are the forebearers of modern high-end audio.
