Exhibitors Design Stands Themselves with Inventory3D



In this example I show you an Inventory3D use case for the organisation of an exposition. Generally, expositors order individual stands online. Expositors choose from a given list of pre-selected components and mark the type and number of chosen items in an online order sheet. All these orders are collected within a database.
From the exposition organizer`s point of view, there are three major challenges in the ordering process. First, the ordering process needs to be coordinated with a warehouse, second, the space needs to be planned properly, and third, the client wishes to receive a realistic visualization of how the ordered stand will look like. Inventory3D addresses all these challenges.

Inventory3D dramatically changes the way the ordering information is processed. The software is configured to read database information from the orders database directly into the 3D environment of SketchUp and link graphical 3D objects from the pre-built component library to an individual order. Database entries for items that are already linked to objects in the SketchUp model are shown in green colour. When I click on a record, the color changes to yellow, and the corresponding object in the model is highlighted. In addition, each connected database entry is provided with a zoom function. Click on the magnifier tool, and the model zooms to the position of the connected item. When a client orders a stand using the online formular, new entries are added to the database, and said entries appear in white colour. Newly added database entries are integrated into the model by selecting the corresponding 3D object from the prebuilt component library and placing it in the SketchUp model.

Using the dimensioned reality environment of SketchUp we can plan the space allocation for the exhibitor, locate the ordered stands equipment in a 3D view of the stand, visualize how everything fits together, draw quickly a realistic 3 dimensional model and right away send a preliminary view of the stand to the client.

For panels, poles and other building parts of the stands we use the dynamic components feature. For planning walls consisting of individual panels they can simply be extended in the model, and the panels are automatically. To calculate how many copies of each item shall be taken from warehouse; we generate automatic reports that list the copy numbers of each component present in the model.

Inventory3D offers a number of great capabilities to produce realistic 2D and 3D outputs and views, of the whole exhibition hall and also of each of the stands. Said views can be used for internal planning, for the workers who assemble the stands, but also to provide exact information to the clients about how the ordered stand will look like in reality.

Inventory3D can be very easily integrated into the exhibition process. It connects to existing systems, extends their back-office capabilities and allows to perform individual tasks much quicker and more accurate.
