Erin Besler : A Companion to architecture (March 2, 2022)

After Hernán Díaz Alonso’s introduction, Erin Besler discusses how the “assemblages of impromptu intervention and incidental ephemera” of vernacular building inform the work of Besler & Sons, LLC, providing “a way to reconsider expertise, professionalism, power, ubiquity, defaults, communication environments, construction practices, and how these things confront architecture”.
Besler discusses their book, “Best Practices: A Companion to Architecture and Its Messy Relationship with Building Materials, Signage Systems, Communication Equipment, Plant Life, and People” (2021), and several projects, including:

“The Entire situation” installation of freestanding rooms
“StudFindr” design app
“Roof deck at MOMA PS1”
“Shed in Illinois”
“Props”: terrazzo doorstops, bookends, parking chock,
“Enjoy your deck :-)” exhibit and video for the Chicago Architecture Biennial
