We talked a bit about this extension in the video on Monday, but I wanted to give it its own video because it has the potential to be a huge timesaver.
SketchUp has the built-in ability to create components that cut openings in walls. However, the problem with the built-in function is that it won’t work with walls that have any sort of thickness, so if you’re modeling any kind of wall that isn’t just a single face, it will only cut an opening in one side of the face.
However, this extension allows you to take those cut components and place them within walls with thickness so that you can automatically cut holes in your walls wherever your windows go!
The way it works is very simple – simply create your cut component like you usually do, place it in your wall, then enable it from the extensions menu. Whenever you do this, Double-Cut will automatically activate with your cut components, cutting openings inside thickened walls.
You can use this to quickly move objects around within your walls instead of having to manually cut your openings out.
You can enable or disable this extension for individual components by right clicking and selecting “disable.”
Overall, it’s a very simple extension, but not having to manually cut holes in walls can be a huge timesaver.
