This week’s plugin of the week is tools on Surface by Fredo6.
While SketchUp comes with lots of great features, one of the places where it really falls a little short is in the area of modeling on curved faces.
This plugin by developer Fredo6 contains a complete set of tools designed to help you work on surfaces.
Where can you find it?
You can download this toolset from the website SketchUcation. For the actual link, visit www.thesketchupessentials.com/toolsonsurface and click the button on the page.
How much does it cost?
It’s a free download. Where possible, I will provide a link to allow you to donate to the developer. A lot of these guys work for free, so please, even if it’s a few dollars, if you like their work, throw a little money their way.
Features
This toolset contains tools designed to help you draw on surfaces.
This includes tools to draw lines and arcs, complete with on-face inferencing.
It also includes tools for drawing geometric shapes, such as squares, circles, polygons, ovals, parralellograms, and pie shapes.
All tools include the ability to draw both actual geometry, as well as construction lines.
Faces drawn with these tools create actual geometry, allowing you to remove faces if you desire.
This tool also includes a dedicated erase tool that will erase geometry on faces without erasing the lines of the faces themselves.
Finally, this tool contains an offset along face tool, which can be very powerful when coupled with the scale tool.
Review
This toolset contains just about everything you could want for working on surfaces in SketchUp.
Functionality – 5 out of 5
Value – 5 out of 5
Ease of Use – 5 out of 5
This tool should be in everyone’s toolbox. Especially since it’s free, there’s no reason you shouldn’t install this plugin.
