Dominique Boudet – OMA’s Villa dall’Ava: A Clients Response

Lecture date: 2007-01-31

‘Any construction is a challenge and the Villa dall’Ava, completed in 1991, is no exception. But nine years to build a mere 250 m2 proves that the road to contemporary architecture is sometimes especially arduous.

Dominique Boudet and his family created the conditions for OMA to build one of the iconic homes of the last few decades. In this lecture, Boudet reflects on the process. The voyage with Rem Koolhaas and his team was an unforgettable experience, one that changed the course of our family life. Along the way, both we and the architecture matured. At the end of the journey, a special relationship has developed between the clients, the architect and the building. Maybe even, a harmony.

Dominique Boudet has a background in law and management. He has devoted most of his professional career to journalism, mainly as chief editor of Le Moniteur, the influential French construction weekly, and of AMC, the monthly architecture magazine. In 2000 and 2002 he organised the first Europe Architects Forum in Venice and Porto. Today, in addition to contributing to various architecture magazines, Boudet works as an architecture consultant for public and private clients.
