Celebrated interior designer David Hicks discusses the differences between interior design and interior decoration. In 1953, Hicks decorated his first house in London’s South Eaton Place. He quickly established himself at the forefront of interior decoration with a style that has gracefully blended the English traditions of interior design with twentieth-century technology. His rich but simple approach was an important and acknowledged inspiration for many of his contemporaries and successors. He formed the firm Hicks and Parr in 1956 and worked on a series of high profile city homes and country estates. David Hicks Limited was establish in 1959, and led to commissions for carpet and wallpaper designs as well as restaurants, hotels, offices and consumer products, as well as a private suite in Buckingham palace for the Prince of Wales.
