“If you took the whole world and collapsed it into one little ball, you’d find it here, in this city.” Daniel Libeskind, world-renowned architect behind the new World Trade Center site, gives tribute to his city in this short and colourful video.
“There is no typical New Yorker … it’s a city of atypical people,” says Daniel Libeskind who came to New York City at the age of 13 and saw both the building and the collapse of the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers. In this video he discusses the tolerance, complexities and fascination of his adopted home.
Daniel Libeskind (b. 1946) is a Polish-American architect and co-founder of Studio Daniel Libeskind. His buildings include the Jewish Museum in Berlin, Germany, the Imperial War Museum North, Manchester, England, the extension to the Denver Art Museum, Denver, USA and the master plan for the reconstruction of the World Trade Center site, New York, USA. Libeskind has taught at numerous universities world wide, including the University of Pennsylvania and Yale University, and he is the recipient of multiple prizes. Among others the 1985 Stone Lion at the Venice Biennale and several RIBA awards.
Daniel Libeskind was interviewed by Marc-Christoph Wagner at his studio in New York City in October 2016.
