In today’s tutorial, you are going to learn how to create a custom railing style in VisualArq from scratch using Grasshopper. We will go through the integration of Grasshopper definition with VisualArq plugin and on top of that, you will see the process of creating important parameters for your custom styles and how to change them parametrically.
We are going to go over the basic concepts on how to create these styles in Grasshopper, what are some of the rules you need to follow for this to work, and lastly how to use your newly created styles in Rhino with VisualArq.
The creation of VisualArq styles can be compared with creating your own custom families in Revit, but the main advantage here is that you can use the power of Grasshopper and create as many parameters as possible. One important note is that you want your definitions to be “universal” so they can be applied to any type of shape whether it is a straight line or a bézier curve.
In the extended version of this tutorial which is available on our Patreon page (link above), we will show you an in-depth process on how to create classical railing using all elements including balusters, hand railings, posts and how to parametrically control their location, density, and closeness.
