Short Intro
Sometimes, it can get a bit frustrating and time consuming trying to select the objects that you want in your model. Today’s extension is a very robust set of tools for selecting different kinds of objects in SketchUp.
Plugin Name: Selection Toys
Plugin Developer: Thom Thom
How Much does it cost? Free! (Don’t forget to donate to your developer!)
Where do you get it?
This extension can be downloaded both from the SketchUcation store, as well as from the SketchUp extension warehouse. I’ve also linked to it in the notes below.
Tool Functions
This extension contains a large set of tools for selecting different types of objects in your model. By default, only about 8 options show up in the toolbar, but you can go in and enable additional options by modifying the UI settings in the extension menu.
The extension basically works by you selecting an object or group of objects, then adding to or subtracting from that selection by selecting different options.
For example, if you have an object with a framework and a ton of faces, you can use the select faces option or the deselect edges option to quickly delete out all the faces.
You can also use it to select the soft edges in your model, allowing you to quickly smooth or unsmooth curved faces.
This allows lots of different options for being creative with different model types.
This also has options for selecting groups, components, guides, lines by type, and edge loops.
All in all, it’s a very powerful set of tools that allow working with selections in a way that will really up your modeling game.
You can also assign keyboard shortcuts to these tools in order to speed up working with them.

Finally, please consider supporting me on Patreon. As you know, The SketchUp essentials is a side project for me, and a lot of these tools and extensions cost money. By supporting me on Patreon, you help me be able to purchase licenses for new softwares to keep bringing you new plugin reviews and other SketchUp content. Even a dollar a month helps.
In either case, thanks very much for watching, and I’ll catch you in the next video.
