Inhoma Design

Montreal, Canada, 2013-05-08 –

Inhoma Design announces its participation in the next International Montreal Interior Design Show (SIDIM), from May 23rd to 26th. The French importer, who has a showroom in Montreal specializes in limited editions of high-end furniture and decorating accessories, combining traditional craftsmanship and contemporary creativity.

« We choose craftsmen and out-of-the-ordinary designers and companies, whose personal stories show respect towards materials and a taste for independent creation; for example, a textile-mill which has kept its machines for over a hundred years, an artist who lives at 1800 m high to keep his creative independence, or designers who choose self-editing in order to express themselves without constraints. Contrary to standardized objects, our collections have a soul which inhabits a space rather than just decorating it”, explains Marie-Laure Laurent, co-founder of Inhoma Design.

Emotions and materials
Marie-Laure Laurent opened her first decorating shop in the French Alps over ten years ago, then rapidly made a reputation of excellence in decorating mountain chalets. Now in Quebec, the importer supplies interior designers as well as non-professionals who are looking for unique objects with eye-catching personality. Inhoma Design makes the difference with the quality of materials used by its suppliers. Some perpetuate ancestral know-how by using National Heritage machines, like Arpin textile mill. Others carefully choose their suppliers. Rouge du Rhin selects the best Belgian linen to make their cushions and the best French know-how to ennoble them. Céline Wright selects her paper from Japan to make her lighting sculptures.

Tradition and modernity
This exceptional respect for materials is combined with the quality of a production process which is anchored in centuries-old methods. Arpin textile mill is one of the last companies to weave and produce finished products as well as tailored items from raw fleece. Céline Wright’s lighting is made of hundreds of paper bands (up to 1600 for some collections), which are individually stuck together by a network of female workers working from home, like in the days of “Cottage Industry” in the 17th century. If Olivier Dollé uses ancestral assembling techniques, his collections have a clearly modern spirit. Marianne Diemer from Rouge du Rhin prints patterns inspired by Native Americans or Vasarely trompe l’oeil on her traditionally-made cushions.

Tailored creations
Due to their production methods and creative actions, the majority of Inhoma Design’s suppliers are able to tailor their products. For example, Mathieu Lustrerie, a small fifty-year-old company which has become an international reference in terms of heritage lighting restoration (such as the ones in Galerie des Glaces in the Palais de Versailles in France, the Palais Farnèse in Rome or the Music Academy in Philadelphia), provides exceptional lighting. Inhoma Design has become a privileged provider for the most demanding designers in Quebec. Eventually, the company hopes to have household linen produced locally from imported fabrics, to be able to give the best response to the most specific demands.

SIDIM 2013
Inhoma design will present some of its collections on Stand C5 of « Carrefour International » at the next SIDIM show.

This will be the opportunity to show two bear-bookcases 6 feet long and 3 feet high, which will be the mascots of the occasion. Named “Junior”, these two imposing and unusual pieces are part of Ibride’s animal collection “pet furniture”. These items are self-edited and are constructed from high-density stratified wood to be weather-resistant.

Olivier Dollé’s mural bookcase « branche » will also be on show. It is a beautiful example of traditional woodworking skills put to use with poetic creativity. As functional as it is sculptural, this piece is made up of 80 pieces of oak veneered plywood. It comes in two lengths, 10ft or 14ft.

Illustrating the importance of the care Inhoma Design places on the quality of materials, Rouge du Rhin’s cushions exhibit a marriage between graphic creativity, eco-responsible production methods and noble materials.

Beyond the products on show, Inhoma Design invites visitors to submit their decorating projects to them; as importers, their concept is to supply their customers with elements that do not yet exist in Quebec.
