Speaking from her studio, architect Marina Tabassum tells us about her practice and design for this year’s Serpentine Pavilion.
Tabassum is the founder of Marina Tabassum Architects, based out of Dhaka, Bangladesh. She is the 25th architect to be selected for the annual commission.
Tabassum describes her studio’s work as a response to community and environmental consciousness. Previous projects include the Bait Ur Rouf Mosque in Dhaka, which uses perforated brickwork to create interplays of light within the space, and Khudi Bari, a transportable bamboo structure created in response to the mass displacement of people living in Bangladesh due to flooding.
For this year’s Serpentine commission, Tabassum has designed a pavilion titled ‘A Capsule in Time’, which takes the form of an arched, canopy-like structure.
Visit the Serpentine Pavilion from 6 June – 26 October 2025.
