Andrew Benjamin – Building Philosophy: Towards a Theory of Architecture

Lecture date: 1996-02-26

Utilising the theory of complexity developed in his book The Plural Event, Andrew Benjamin examines ways of connecting the projects of philosophy and architecture. Drawing on the works of Bataille and Blanchot, his lecture works within a frame of reference in which the concerns of philosophy and architecture become mutually informing. A frequent visiting lecturer and critic at the AA, Andrew Benjamin is Visiting Professor of Architecture at the University of Sydney and Research Professor of Critical Theory at Monash University. His many books include: Art, Mimesis and the Avant-Garde; Present Hope: Philosophy, Architecture, Judaism; and Architectural Philosophy.
