Enrigue argues that going from his childhood neighbourhood to his current career as a writer now was “something impossible. And it was a matter of persistence, and of moving on.” A lot of people want to become a writer, he believes, because they do not realise all the difficulties of a writer’s life, such as the economic hardships.
Álvaro Enrigue (b. 1969) is an award-winning Mexican novelist, short-story writer, and essayist. Among his books are —— six novels, three books of short stories, and one book of essays. He lives in New York.
Álvaro Enrique was interviewed by Peter Adolphsen in August 2017 in connection with the Louisiana Literature festival at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebæk, Denmark.
