A visual essay on balance, as a stable force that connects spiders, skateboarding, and our thoughts



Constructing a visual essay around the concept of balance, director Nacho Errando reflects on four distinct elements that represent its influence for the short film The Idea of Balance. Merging playful poetry and visual language, Errando considers the presence of balance in everyday life, between skateboarding, spiders, a chair poised on two legs, and a sculptural mobile – conceived by Barcelona-based designer Jordi Canudas.

Exploring definitions of “the state of a body when opposing forces acting upon it are equal and cancel each other out”, balance and its many forms become a symbol of natural equilibrium, physicality, and mental focus, sustaining us and our surroundings.
