People from all over the world modeled their communities in 3D with SketchUp for the world to see in Google Earth. With over 23,000 models entered, Pedro Domecq Aguirre and Josetxo Perez Fernandez garnered the most votes from the public for their beautiful models of Getaria, Guipuzcoa, Spain. Getaria is on the northern coast in Basque country, with a long fishing tradition and illustrious characters, such as navigator and explorer Juan Sebastian Elcano, and fashion designer Cristóbal Balenciaga. The prize for winning the competition was, in part, $25,000 USD granted to the public school in Getaria, as well as a celebration with a visit from the Google and SketchUp teams.
