Nathalie Dewez was crowned Designer of the Year in Belgium in 2011.The Grand-Hornu Images has presented some of her more significant creations on display in the general foyer of the Grand-Hornu. After studying at the Cambre National College of Visual Arts in Brussels, where she followed the “fInterior Architecture” course, Nathalie Dewez found her vocation in lighting design.
Into her work she subtly incorporates the duality of the “material” and the “non-material” – something she considers to be the very essence of any lighting object. She favors the functionality and the quality of light, both interior and exterior. Her creations are characterised by an economic use of means, a minimal use of components and a concern for ease of manufacture. Her light works carry an undeniable charisma. Just a few lines or surfaces bearing simple and effective geometry are enough to express delicate poetry. Her participation in numerous international salons and exhibitions has brought her to work together with a number of architects’ practices and manufacturers such as Ligne Roset (France), Habitat (United Kingdom) and Established & Sons (United Kingdom). In addition to her title Designer of the Year 2011, Nathalie Dewez has recently been honoured with the PBA Design award by the auction house Pierre Bergé & Associates. Nathalie Dewez lives and works in Brussels. A former student of the Cambre National College of Visual Arts, she currently teaches lighting there in the interior design department.
