FGMDA
After 30 years of award-winning achievements, FGMDA architects move forward under a new name
Montréal, Canada, 2016-03-23 –
Fournier, Gersovitz, Moss, Drolet et associés architectes (FGMDA), one of Canada’s leading architectural firms, has incorporated under a new name, EVOQ Architecture. EVOQ will be guided by the same management team of Alain Fournier, Julia Gersovitz, Rosanne Moss, Georges Drolet, Giovanni Diodati, Dima Cook and Éric Moutquin. For over 30 years, the firm has been recognized for its award-winning work on heritage conservation projects and Inuit and First Nations architecture. The firm’s portfolio includes a number of high-profile, technically challenging buildings, including the rehabilitation of the West Block of Parliament in Ottawa, design of the Canadian High Arctic Research Station (CHARS) in Nunavut, and the restoration of the public spaces of Union Station in Toronto. Certain projects will continue under FGMDA during the transition period.
What’s in a name?
The name EVOQ stems from the word evocative – “conjuring a vivid impression of reality through artistry and imagination”. It boldly asserts the firm’s continuing commitment to conserving and creating meaningful architecture that relates to its historic or cultural context. Easily understood in both French and English, EVOQ is a memorable name that resonates with the different business sectors of the firm. The dynamic logo features a revealing stencil design, an syllabic-inspired Q and highlights the firm’s flare for colour.
Working together to create harmony
EVOQ emphasizes a collaborative approach, working closely with clients to realize their project vision. Recognized in the industry for its intellectual rigour and technical expertise, the firm creates thoughtful, well-planned designs that are sensitive to the cultural context and built environment. “The richness of any site comes from its unique characteristics and history”, explains Georges Drolet, Director. “When we create, we want to evoke that particularity in the project’s overall design and details.”
