2016 ADI Awards Finalists

Barcelona, Spain

ADI-FAD (Association of Industrial Design)

The lists of ADI Awards finalists include Delta Industrial Design Awards, the ADI Medals for design students and the new ADI Culture Awards for projects promoting design culture

Barcelona, Spain, 2016-05-20 –

The ADI-FAD Association of Industrial Design organizes the 2016 ADI Awards. A new name combines the awards in different fields of industrial design and product, such as Delta Prizes and ADI Medals, and for the first time in its history there is an award dedicated to honoring design culture, the ADI Culture Award.

The selection committee of the 1st edition of the ADI Awards is formed by the board of ADI-FAD, a group of experts from different fields of industrial and product design, communication, teaching and theory design- which has selected 100 projects as finalists from more than 340 submitted.

Delta Awards

This year a total of 80 finalists will compete in the Delta Awards, celebrating its 38th international call to better product design, and aimed at promoting public recognition of innovative products that propose a conceptual renewal, are concerned with the environment and are examples of both design and manufacturing quality.

The awards have been international since 2007, and since then, designers and companies around the world can participate if their products are sold in the Spanish market.

The products presented may belong to different fields, such as: products for the people, products for the home, products for work, products for outdoor environments and products for mobility. That is why one can find lamps to motorbikes or bicycles among the list of finalists.

The Jury of the 2016 Delta Awards is independent and international. It consists of experts in different fields related to industrial design, which physically examine products at the Delta Finalists exhibition. For this edition, the jury is chaired by:

Jasper Morrison, British designer and co-founder of Super Normal; Jeannette Altherr, industrial designer and co-founder of Lievore Altherr Molina Studio; Alexander von Vegesack, founder and president of CIRECA; Xavier Costa, CEO of Lékué; and Gracia Cardona, president of ADI-FAD, co-founder and current editor of the online publication diarioDESIGN.

The jury will choose the winners of only one Delta Gold and various Silver Delta on June 8. In addition, all those who visit the exhibition may vote and award the “Opinion Prize” among all product finalists. All winners will be awarded a trophy designed by the prestigious Tomás Alonso.

ADI Culture Awards

The ADI Culture Award is intended for projects that help disseminate design culture, beyond objects, spreading the variety of expressions that deepen the conceptualization of design and venture further in the experimental field, in research and innovation. The award has two categories: project and trajectory. In its first call, in the Project category, around 80 projects have been received, of which 33 selected and 12 finalists have been chosen.  There will be only one winner, who will receive a trophy designed by the experimental designer Diego Ramos.

The finalists will be judged by an independent jury of three professionals with prestige and complementary profiles in the fields of design and culture, which will choose the winner justified and without appeal. The jury of the 2016 edition consists of Viviana Narotzky, design historian, writer and curator and formerly of ADI-FAD; José Luis de Vicente, journalist and curator specializing in digital culture, art and technology; and Raquel Pelta, design historian and researcher, professor of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Barcelona and winner of a Laus Award of Honor.

ADI Medal Awards

The 2016 ADI Medals, an award focused on young professionals recently emerged from school, are organized in parallel with the Delta Industrial Design Awards, and they have the same international jury, which will decide which projects merit the gold, silver, and bronze. As every year, the jury will assess the 10 finalists. The winners will receive the medal designed by Adrià Pedrosa, winner of the latest edition of the ADI Gold Medal.

Delivery

On June 9, within the context of FADfest, the winners of the 2016 ADI Awards will be announced during a ceremony at Barcelona Design Hub.

All product finalists of the ADI Culture Award, the Delta Prizes and the ADI Medal will be added to the catalog of each prize respectively and will be part of the exhibition “Best design of the year”, which includes the finalists and winners of several awards organized by the associations of FAD. The exhibition opens June 6 at Barcelona Design Hub.
