“I call it an emotional machine.” – Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley on THE DELUSION | Serpentine

Hear from artist and game designer Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley, curator Tamar Clarke-Brown and producer Ruth Waters about the exhibition _THE DELUSION._

Combining satire and absurd humour with cooperative gaming and participatory theatre, the project explores the real-world impacts of societal division.

Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley invites visitors into a “live community play” which aims to rehumanise debates and provide a meeting space for players to pause, discuss and reconnect.

Commissioned and produced by Serpentine Arts Technologies, _THE DELUSION_ is Brathwaite-Shirley’s most ambitious work to date. It features a new series of video games and works developed collaboratively over the course of the past year with a team of artists, researchers, technologists and members of Danielle’s Black Trans and Queer community.

Visit _THE DELUSION_ at Serpentine North until 18 January 2026.
