This flexible lamp by Samuel Wilkinson Studio self-expands on release

Samuel Wilkinson Studio has designed the Sorpresa lamp for lighting brand Astep. The lightweight lamp self-expands on release from its packaging.

“Rather than opting for a disassembled flat-pack lamp, we developed a pre-assembled lamp with an honest timber mechanism that enables it to expand upon release from its packaging,” said Samuel Wilkinson Studio.

Shortlisted in the lighting design category for Dezeen Awards 2025, the Sorpresa lamp incorporates recycled and recyclable materials, features a removable and washable cover and allows for all parts to be easily separated at the end of its life cycle.
