reSITE Small Talk with Teddy Cruz

“The border is a physicalization of fear.” We spoke with Teddy Cruz while he was visiting the latest Ai Weiwei’s Law of the Journey exhibition at Prague’s National Gallery (Veletrzni Palac), and spoke at reSITE 2017: In/visible City.

Teddy Cruz is an architect and urbanist, and Professor of Public Culture and Urbanization in the Department of Visual Arts at the University of California, San Diego. Together with Fonna Forman, a Professor of Political Theory at the same university, they concentrate on the US/Mexican border and more specifically on San Diego and Tijuana communities, to emphasize human rights, equitable urban development and climate justice. They initiate research and architectural projects that enhance the meaning of border zones as creative civic and political environments. Thus, they aim to enable rethinking the zones of conflict and marginalization as sites of intervention that “produce a new civic and public imagination.”
