Why do architecture? In the slipstream of the triumphs and disasters of poststructural research it may be possible to revisit this eternally unanswered question, so dear to phenomenologists, without making the same old mistakes. Jeff Kipniss lecture (with piano) provides an introduction to a theory of niche-specificity and irreducible effects. Kipnis taught at the AA, long, long, ago. He is an urban designer as well as a curator and critic of architecture.
