O'Donell + Tuomey – Going On

Lecture date: 2004-02-03

Sheila O’Donnell & John Tuomey founded O’Donnell + Tuomey in 1988. They won a RIBA Award in 2003 for their social housing project in Galbally. Urban design projects include the Temple Bar regeneration in Dublin and the Zuid Poort masterplan in Delft. We always intend to start every project from the beginning . . . but we know there are certain constants in our thinking that provide continuity for us in our work. We refer to cinema, topography and the traditions of architecture for inspiration, more than to contemporary practice or current technologies. . . the pace of practice taxes our patience and nothing ever seems to be finished to our satisfaction. We have learned to take pleasure in the process by which the work is made.
