GLG Global Headquarters

AREA 65,000 SF
COMPLETION JUNE 2014

Adjacent to the New York Public Library and overlooking Grand Central Terminal, the new 65,000 sq ft headquarters for GLG presents a welcomed challenge of defining a modern collaborative workplace within a historic building.
The design centers around a new double height atrium and skylight that brings much needed light and volume into the deep floorplate. The layout of the office space allows for public and private events as well as neighborhoods of collaborative open working for 300 people with clear and direct circulation throughout as is necessary for an active working environment. In addition, a central plaza and café support the needs of employees and guests with a variety of amenities that facilitate knowledge sharing and promote staff interaction.
In consultation with their designers, Clive Wilkinson Architects, GLG elected to employ the Activity Base Working method of office planning, a highly supported form of collaborative working common in the EU and Australia. ABW allows individuals the flexibility to work in a variety of settings that are catered to specific types of working. All spaces are intended to be flexible and agile to accommodate the ever-changing needs of GLG employees and clientele. With this project, GLG is leading the introduction of ABW in the US, where few, if any, projects currently employ this evolved level of flexible working
