Yosuke Hayano – MAD in China

Lecture date: 2008-10-31

The rapid rise of the Chinese economy cultivated a horizon for new Asian architecture in post-globalization. This socio-economic transformation inevitably demands new social lifestyles from those who inhabit the metropolis. Although the deviation between the accelerated velocity of social transformation and the adjustment of peoples realities is barely visible from outside, there is a huge demand for the installation of an urban fabric that reconnects the city and the people.
Presenting a series of projects by the architectural design office MAD from the last five years, MAD In China illustrates the phenomenal urban transformation and changing reality of China. Run by three Asian architects (Ma Yansong, Yosuke Hayano, and Dang Qun) MAD practices contemporary architecture, urbanism and cultural analysis.

Based in Beijing, MAD examines and develops its concept of futurism beyond the boundaries of architecture by exploring sociology, technology and politics in todays China.
