Xavier Le Roy, Product of Circumstances, 1999

In conjunction with his exhibition, Retrospective, Xavier Le Roy presents his solo work, Product of Circumstances, 1999.
In 1999 Le Roy was commissioned to produce a work for the event Body Currency at the Wiener Festwochen. Le Roy’s response was a performance that utilizes both choreography and the traditional lecture format to contextualize his personal narrative, specifically his transition from an early career in micro-biology to choreography and visual art practice.
The idea of an artistic biography reappears in Retrospective, wherein the performers describe their own individual histories to the audience through conversation and movement.
