Why Dreaming Is Essential: Winy Maas

“Don’t think in blocks, don’t think in buildings. Think in connections only.” – Winy Maas

Why dreaming about the future of our cities is important? What is the best connected environment ever thinkable? How to start imagining all the other possibilities of city making? What will be the new infrastructures of our cities?

Winy Maas, co-founding director of MVRDV that designed iconic structures like Markthal in Rotterdam, among many, takes us on almost like a “back to the future” journey during his special lecture at reSITE 2017: In/visible City conference.

Everything, including infrastructure and landscapes, is in constant change. Considering the infrastructures of future, Winy Maas showed us MVRDV projects all around the world: the Robotic City in Barcelona, the Tripod Bridges of Rotterdam, Skycar City in Shenzhen, a new system of building blocks in Moscow, and an Arboretum in Seoul as a symbol of a new kind of democracy.
