Watch footage of Universal Everything's immersive VR experience

This captioned video shows a virtual reality experience created by digital design studio Universal Everything, in which a 5,000-strong crowd of simulated humans surges, swarms and levitates in response to the user’s movements.

Viewers can take part in the performance by way of a VR headset that enables them to inhabit a glowing orange protagonist placed at the heart of a crowd.

Through this character, participants can roam a digital open-world, which has featureless undulating terrain scattered with vertical shafts of light. If the user comes into contact with a light source, the environment and the behaviour of the crowd changes dramatically.

An immersive VR film adaptation of the existing artwork premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival as part of the New Frontiers showcase of experimental media.
