UD Sessions #2: Johannes Pointl




Grahame Shane, Professor in Columbia GSAPP’s Urban Design Program speaks with Johannes Pointl, who gave a lecture at the recent event “UD Sessions: The Expanded Field of Urban Design” featuring alumni of the Urban Design Program. Johannes Pointl is a practicing architect, urban designer, and researcher. He holds a professional degree in architecture from TU Graz and an MSc in Architecture and Urban Design from GSAPP. From 2012 to 2014 he worked as a project manager at SCAPE studio in New York while also teaching as an adjunct assistant professor at GSAPP. Currently he is an assistant professor at TU Wien and a project manager at the architecture and urban design office Studiovlay in Vienna, where he directs the design and implementation of a mixed-use co-working and co-housing tower. Johannes talk about his experience in GSAPP’s Urban Design Program and his research on spatial manifestations of contemporary asylum politics in Austria and Greece that has been presented at the Architecture Bienniale in Venice 2015, at the Oslo Architecture Trienniale 2016, and at the UN Habitat III conference 2016 in Quito.
