Tobias Rees, Reid Hoffman Professor of Humanities, The New School

Tobias Rees is the Reid Hoffman Professor of Humanities at The New School for Social Research, Director at the LA-based Berggruen Institute, and a Fellow of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR). His expertise lies at the intersection of art history, the history of science, and the philosophy of modernity. His work is concerned with how categories that order knowledge mutate over time and what effects these mutations have on the human/the real. He is the author of Designs for an Anthropology of the Contemporary (2008), Plastic Reason (2016), and most recently After Ethnos (2018)..
