Thesis Prep Symposium (March 6, 2012)

Elena Manferdini moderates a discussion between Eric Owen Moss, Hernan Diaz Alonso, Jeffrey Kipnis, and Peter Eisenman regarding the relevance of thesis in architecture school.

Eisenman argues that thesis is a mistake, insisting that students do not know enough to participate in contemporary architectural discourse. The rest of the panel defends thesis.

Manferdini asks what thesis projects are potent now. Eisenman argues that the corner problem is not deep enough in scope for a thesis.

The panel responds to comments from the audience. The panel discusses originality and what constitutes new. Kipnis discusses the origin of Eisenman’s Abu Dhabi project.
