The fortune of the city is that it has never been perfect – Opening lecture

Join us on Thursday 21 May 2026 for the opening of The fortune of the city is that it has never been perfect. The exhibition explores the challenges of urban development through Álvaro Siza’s experiential approach to the city, characterized by respect for and an understanding of a place, its shape, its embodied history, and its life. By juxtaposing material from Siza’s archives donated to the CCA with documentation from photographers, architects, and historians associated with the architect and his urban projects, the exhibition reveals the city’s various scales, textures, faces, and complexity.
